Our panelists will discuss "net zero," explain why it is yet another capitalist false "solution," and introduce related issues. This will be followed by an open Q&A and discussion of strategies to combat the disinformation around this scam.
System Change Not Climate Change coordinating committee member David Klein, PhD, is an author, mathematical physicist, and emeritus professor of mathematics at California State University Northridge, where he helped to establish a NASA-funded Climate Science Program. He's a member of Democratic Socialists of America and author of Capitalism and Climate Change: The Science and Politics of Global Warming. David has written about the follies of "net zero" for SCNCC.
Aura Vasquez chairs the DSA-Los Angeles Climate Justice committee and previously served on the Board of Commissioners to the LA Department of Water and Power. She led the Sierra Club’s “Beyond Coal” campaign, securing a commitment from Los Angeles to go coal-free by 2025. Aura helped to pass LA's ban on single-use plastic bags and to retire three coastal gas plants.
