Dear Friend,
Today is World Water Day! Our focus this year, and for every future World Water Day until it is no longer an issue, is the drinking water crisis on First Nations reserves.
While many advisories have been lifted, there are still 28 reserves with long-term Drinking Water Advisories in place – eight years after Prime Minister Trudeau made his promise to end them during the 2015 election. And that’s 28 too many.
Can you imagine any non-Indigenous communities in Canada being left without safe tap water for so long?
I can’t either.
It feels like the Trudeau government has lost any sense of urgency on this critical issue. Will you remind the federal government of its obligations to Indigenous nations and to respect the human right to water?

We are also continuing with our Water Drops campaign, which provides tools for elementary school students to learn about the water crisis on First Nations reserves and gives them the opportunity to send a message to the Prime Minister about it. Over the past few years, several thousand elementary students have written, drawn, and coloured our paper Water Drops, which were then delivered to the Prime Minister.
Please join students and teachers in their efforts by sending your email to the federal government now.
Let this be the last World Water Day that First Nations communities are forced to live without safe tap water.
