Ignoring cage-free promises?

PAOV — Kellogg’s has failed to keep their promises to ban cruel cages in their egg supply chains. The cramped conditions in the cages causes the hens extreme distress, as they suffer broken bones, deformities, and severe feather loss. Open Wing Alliance started their petition because they want to put an end to the cruel confinement of egg-laying hens. They don’t want these companies to get away with their horrific animal abuse. Sign the petition to join the Alliance in demanding Kellogg’s take immediate action to give these hens the freedom they deserve.

Hold global companies accountable for their cage-free promise!

Kellogg’s is being called out for failing to report meaningful progress toward their cage-free commitments.

Kellogg’s pledged to ban the use of cruel cages in their supply chains but are now falling behind. Kellogg’s has made abysmal progress on its commitment made in 2017, reporting only 0.5% cage-free sourcing.

Around the world, the cage-free movement is gaining momentum. For countless egg-laying hens facing a lifetime in extreme confinement, this is good news. After all, every cage-free commitment represents a significant shift for the better—as long as the companies pledging to stop putting chickens in cages actually follow through.

These cages are so small and packed with birds that the hens can’t move or spread their wings. Often, their body parts are caught in the caging, resulting in fractured or broken bones, deformities, and severe feather loss. Some hens, exhausted or unable to move, are trampled to death by their cage mates. Those that don’t die from the abuse spend their miserable lives trapped with dead birds at their feet.

Hundreds of companies around the world are ditching cages and have the reports and plans to prove it. Many of the leading manufacturers, including Kraft-Heinz, McCain, Nestle, General Mills, and Unilever, are consistently reporting meaningful progress on their global cage-free commitments. Other companies have already fulfilled their cage-free commitments, and others are accelerating their transitions and sharing roadmaps. Meanwhile, what is Kellogg’s doing?

It is unacceptable that Kellogg’s remains ambiguous about honoring their commitments to phase out the horrific animal abuse in their global egg supply chain. Please sign and share this petition urging it to stop falling behind!
