Can you join the day of action, Paov?

We're hitting the streets on June 28 to demand federal leaders stop fuelling climate chaos. r1

Paov,

Canada is facing its worst year of wildfires ever.

So far, 2,697 fires have ravaged communities from coast to coast to coast, sweeping through roughly 5.8 million hectares of land.1 International firefighters arriving in Quebec said the blazes are 100 times larger than anything they’ve seen before.2

It’s enraging to watch our federal government pay lip service to the crisis, while pouring billions of public dollars into the fossil fuel industry and letting Big Oil weaken critical climate legislation. Just last week, when the Trudeau government finally introduced the Sustainable Jobs legislation it had promised for years, it turned out to be a plan to make a plan by the end of 2025.3

Even in the face of unprecedented fires, our government isn’t acting at the scale and speed required. That’s why we’re hitting the streets to demand federal leaders stop fuelling climate chaos. Will you join the “Canada is Burning” Day of Action next Wednesday, June 28?

We know why fires are raging and the air is unbreathable but our MPs aren’t making that connection. That’s why we’re going to deliver these demands to the doorstep of MPs across the country:

1. Stop the Fossil Fuel Industry: We demand an immediate end to subsidies, hard caps for oil and gas emissions, no new projects, and no more industry influence over our politics.

2. Enact a Just Transition: We urge the government to urgently shift us to 100% renewable energy while generating millions of unionized jobs, following Indigenous leadership, and rapidly decarbonizing in line with climate science.

Over 20 actions are already planned across the country. Find them on our action map and RSVP for one near you.

The more MPs we target, the more power we can build so if there’s no action at your MP’s office, consider hosting one. If you take the lead in your community, we will support you every step of the way with trainings, a step-by-step toolkit, and 1-1 coaching.

I’m still buzzing with energy from last Thursday’s national organizing call. It was a hopeful, refreshing, and energizing event, with hundreds of people who were ready to take action. In case you missed it, you can watch the recording here.

This day of action is a critical moment to channel our grief and rage into building the power we need to win. Let’s keep that momentum going.

In solidarity,

Amara

PS – If you can afford it, please chip in to help us cover the costs of putting on this day of action and supporting organizers across the country. Even a small donation goes a long way.
