PAOV — Jollibee Foods Corporation, the parent company of several global fast food chains, confines millions of egg-laying hens in cramped and unsanitary cages. These hens suffer disease and injury, unable to groom themselves or spread their wings. The Open Wing Alliance started their petition because this practice is inhumane and poses a food safety risk — eggs from caged hens are up to 25 times more likely to contain Salmonella. The Open Wing Alliance is urging Jollibee Foods Corporation to immediately adopt cage-free practices. Sign the petition to join them in fighting to end cruel conditions for egg-laying hens.

These diseased and injured hens are so tightly crammed in small cages, they can’t move or spread their wings. Often, their body parts are caught in the caging, resulting in fractured or broken bones, deformities, and severe feather loss. Some hens, exhausted or unable to move, are trampled to death by their cage mates.
These cages are not only cruel to animals, but they also pose a serious food safety risk to consumers. Hens in these cages are forced to live, breathe, and lay eggs for human consumption while trapped amongst feces and rotting bodies. Eggs from caged hens are up to 25x more likely to contain Salmonella.
Major companies around the world are ditching cages. Global commitments to go cage-free have been made by more than 130 companies around the world, including Toridoll, Minor Foods, Yum! Brands, Inspire Brands, RBI, Burger King, Tim Hortons, Unilever, Nestle, Aldi, Sodexo, Compass Group, Shake Shack, Famous Brands, Costa Coffee, and Barilla. Even low-end fast food and pet food companies are moving away from this horrible practice.
Jollibee Foods Corporation claims to recognize “its responsibility and opportunity to impact sustainability issues in the quick service industry” but the conditions in which they source their eggs are horrendous and cruel. Customers around the world are losing trust while Jollibee, Smashburger, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Red Ribbon, Greenwich, Chowking, and Mang Inasal profit from the unfathomable abuse of millions of animals. Please sign this petition asking Jollibee Foods Corporation to go cage-free.
