Dear Friend,

The work of the Council of Canadians takes many forms.

One of them has been our influential Water Drops campaign. Since 2017, thousands of children from across Canada have used our Water Drops template to create poignant, frank, and colourful messages asking the Prime Minister to finally put an end to drinking water advisories on First Nations reserves.

On Tuesday, June 19th, we delivered the latest collection of Water Drops to Prime Minister Trudeau with the help of some Ottawa elementary school students. We displayed the Water Drops on the fence surrounding Parliament Hill and then delivered them to the Prime Minister’s office across the street.

The event was a great success!

It is important to acknowledge that the Trudeau government has managed to do more on this issue than previous governments, but that has required constant pressure from the public – including the supporters of the Council of Canadians. But there are still 26 reserves with long-term Drinking Water Advisories in place and the federal government seems to have lost any sense of urgency about this over the last three years.

Can you imagine any non-Indigenous communities in Canada being left without safe tap water for so long?

I can’t either.

Access to safe drinking water is a human right. Kids recognize the fundamental injustice that these First Nations communities are facing. And to help them come to a deeper understanding of the issue, we recently produced a Water Drop resource package for elementary school teachers to use in their classrooms.

We will continue to collect and deliver Water Drops until the remaining First Nations communities have clean water. And we will continue mobilizing our supporters and the public to keep the pressure on the federal government.

Of course, to continue to this work – and more! – we rely on the generous donations of individual Canadians all across our country. Individual Canadians. Not corporations. Not government.

Individuals just like you.

Can I count on you to make a small monthly donation to ensure that our work to protect the human right to water continues into the future? A monthly donation makes your support more predictable and allows us to plan our future. A win-win.

Please Support Us Now!

Thank you!
