ALEC — the American Legislative Exchange Council — is a consortium of corporations working in concert with legislators to craft laws that thwart people's interests and benefit corporations'; these laws are then duplicated in states nationwide. They attack voting rights, social security, worker and consumer rights and safety, immigrants' rights, public schools, gun safety, environmental safeguards, climate chaos preparedness -- virtually every aspect of our lives.
We'll hear about some of ALEC's recent carnage, especially relating to climate, from Lisa Graves, who led the Izzy Award-winning ALEC Exposed project as the former executive director of the Center for Media and Democracy. She is now the founder, executive director, and editor in chief of True North Research.
Lisa Graves has spearheaded other major breakthrough investigations into those distorting American democracy and public policy, including KochDocs.org. Her unique insider take on doings within the halls of power is informed by her artistic temperament, earned outrage, and wry sense of humor.
The presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.
