Hey rabble readers,
This week, a group of mothers and families occupied NDP MP Don Davies' Vancouver office to advocate for Palestinian children who have died as a result of Israel's actions in Gaza. Human rights activists across the country are asking the NDP to denounce Israeli aggression and call for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory. You can find analysis of Canadian responses to the situation in Gaza in our continuing coverage.
The world is watching in horror as military conflicts rage, from Gaza, to Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Never far from the victims of war, nuclear-armed missiles stand by at the alert -- a grim reminder on the anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing. Learn more about the elimination of nuclear weapons in articles from Amy Goodman... and Noam Chomsky this week.
On August 21-24, social movements from across the country will converge on Ottawa to attend the Peoples' Social Forum, organizing plans to stop the Harper government's neoliberal agenda. rabble will be there, bringing you news from the proceedings! Check out our events and sponsored workshops, and follow the PSF on rabble.
Join our team, from anywhere in Canada! We're seeking volunteer beat editors to be the eyes and ears of rabble across the country. Find out how to apply here, but hurry -- the deadline is August 31.
rabble.ca and the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives invite Vancouver readers to join author Murray Dobbin, Iglika Ivanova (CCPA-BC), Fiona Rayher (Gen Why Media), Anjali Appadurai (climate justice activist) and Paola Qualizza (Groundswell) for an engaging and provocative discussion on how to "live consciously" and transform Canada, August 12. The event will be moderated by rabble.ca President, Duncan Cameron. Find out more here!

Who is responsible for the Mount Polley Mine tailings pond disaster?
On Monday, billions of litres of waste water flooded into nearby lakes and rivers in the Caribou region of B.C. after a breach of a tailings pond, causing a drinking water ban, a state of emergency and one hell of an environmental disaster.
Who is responsible for the Mount Polley Mine tailings pond disaster?
Choices The Harper government because they gutted the Navigable Waters Protection Act. The B.C. government because they cut inspection staff and allowed the industry to self-regulate. Imperial Metals. Plus, they already accepted full responsibility. The media for not paying attention to Canada's massive mining industry. We won't know until the investigation is done! None of the above.Forward to a friend
