Tomorrow evening the National Energy Board application period for Energy East will close. This is the biggest tar sands pipeline ever proposed, with the climate impact of adding millions of cars to the road.

Hundreds of people across Canada have already flooded the NEB with applications to talk about the climate change impacts of Energy East. The more people who apply now, the harder it will be for PM Harper and Big Oil to ignore the devastating impact of the biggest tar sands pipeline ever.

Every application we send makes PM Harper's work to fast track Energy East harder.

Peter Watson, the head of the National Energy Board has... so far refused to include climate change in the review of Energy East -- a totally ridiculous position. But if we overwhelm the NEB with climate applications, Watson and the NEB will need to decide: either consider the climate impacts of Energy East or reveal the intervention and review as a bit of a sham.

It's a classic Catch-22: if they accept our applications as-is and let us stand as interveners, they will have to evaluate climate change and the pipeline faces an even tougher uphill battle to approval. If they reject us, they lose yet more legitimacy in the public eye, and undermine the entire process. Together, we can force them to make a choice: listen to the people or listen to polluters.

2014 was the hottest year in history. It's unacceptable to try to review new fossil fuel projects without considering their climate impacts.
