Happy International Women's Day!

The Just Film Festival celebrates the achievements of women later this month with the Women's Stories program on Sunday, March 22nd.

Documentary films telling inspiring stories about extraordinary women.

12:30 pm

In Abalimi we meet the Xhosa women from a South African township creating food security for themselves and their families. Growing their own food helps them lift their families out of extreme poverty and is helping to spark a micro-farming revolution in their communities. This movement could result in these poverty-stricken women winning back their basic human rights.
1:30 pm

Vessel begins with Rebecca Gomperts, a young doctor who lived by the sea, and an unlikely idea: Creating an underground network of emboldened, informed activists, working at the cutting edge of reproductive rights. Trusting women to handle abortion themselves.

3:30 pm

The series closes with the must-see American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs. Grace Lee, along with Angela Davis, Bill Moyers, Danny Glover and others, reflects on her long life as an activist and thinker, and what it means to be a revolutionary in the U.S. today. "Revolution," Boggs says, "is about the ability to transform the world."

The Just Film Festival is a co-production of Amnesty International, CoDevelopment Canada, Langara - Continuing Studies, and Village Vancouver, showcasing social justice and environmental documentaries that go to the heart of issues confronting communities here and around the planet.
