Things are changingtogether we have helped to bring some communities back from the brink of extinction and prevented the annihilation of many more. Here are some of the ways you have helped tribal peoples in 2014:

*

ILLEGAL LOGGERS EXPELLED

In April, exactly two years after the launch of Survival’s global campaign to save the Awá tribe, and after 57,377 of you sent messages to the Minister of Justice, your efforts paid off – the Brazilian government sent in troops... to remove the illegal loggers from Awá land. We made this video to thank you, our incredible supporters, for making it all possible.

RACIST TV REPORT RULING UPHELD

Australia’s Federal Court upheld a complaint by Survival that Channel 7’s portrayal of Brazil’s Suruwaha tribe as child murderers and “Stone Age” relics was racist. Survival seeks to challenge portrayals of tribal people as “primitive” or “backwards”.

NEW POSTS TO PROTECT UNCONTACTED INDIANS

Peru’s government pledged to fund and support guard posts in south east Peru where uncontacted Mashco Piro are coming into contact with missionaries and local indigenous communities. This is a big step forward from a government that was only recently denying the existence of uncontacted tribes.

PROTESTS HALT ASSAULT ON INDIGENOUS RIGHTS

Attempts to water down indigenous peoples’ constitutional rights in Brazil have been successfully blocked following widespread protests. The draft bill would have given congress the power to determine the size of Indian territories. Indigenous leader Sonia Guajajara said on her way back to the Amazon after weeks of lobbying, “I am returning with a cleansed heart, a light soul & full of courage to do it all over again if ever needed.”

Whether by digging deep to fund our campaigns, responding to our Urgent Action emails, sharing our news on social media, or giving up your time to campaign, your incredible energy and generosity has enabled us to fight for the lands and lives of threatened tribal peoples around the world.

Thank you!
