Court challenges launched against Site C dam
The Council of Canadians has been opposing the Site C dam since March. Site C is a proposed 60-metre high, 1,050-metre-long earth-filled dam and hydroelectric generation station that would be located on the Peace River between the communities of Hudson's Hope and Taylor in northeastern British Columbia.
Ontario government... sees Energy East as threat to North Bay's drinking water
The Ontario provincial government has agreed with the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority source protection committee's recommendation that the proposed Energy East pipeline is a threat to drinking water in the area. The pipeline crosses numerous waterways that flow into Trout Lake, as well as under Trout Lake, which is the sole source of North Bay's drinking water.
191 MEPs threaten to vote down CETA in European Parliament
EU Trade Insights reports, "The European Parliament’s Socialist and Democrats Group (S&D) threatened on March 4 to vote down the ratification of the EU-Canada trade pact if no substantial improvements are made to the existing chapter on investment protection."
Council of Canadians supports the youth vote at the University of Regina
Our Vancouver-based Get Out the Vote campaigner Brigette DePape and Edmonton-based Prairies-NWT organizer Chris Gallaway were on campus to meet with young people, learn about challenges and opportunities of mobilizing youth for the 2015 federal election, and plan creative ways to get out the vote.
