Gaining Ground
Survival’s work to end harmful conservation practices is building momentum. The campaign has been featured in the international media, such as the LA Times, BBC World Service, Reuters, Vice, The Telegraph and many more. Survival’s contacts in different countries have reported that certain tribal communities have received less abuse from forest guards since we launched our Parks Need Peoples campaign. This is a positive sign, but there is still a long way to go. Tribal peoples’ lives and lands are still being destroyed by the conservation industry, tourism and big business. They are... still being illegally evicted from their ancestral homelands and accused of “poaching” because they hunt their food.
“If the fish are gone, what will we feed the children?”
Forced development projects are leaving the Kwegu tribe in Ethiopia’s Lower Omo Valley to starve. Their land has been stolen to make way for vast commercial plantations, irrigated by the Gibe III dam.

Eight daring challenges to celebrate 80 daring years
Starting with the London Marathon on April 26th, Survival’s co-founder and President Robin Hanbury-Tenison is taking on eight challenges to celebrate his 80th birthday and raise vital funds for Survival. The other feats include skydiving, cave abseiling, and waterskiing the English Channel.

Jumma silenced
The Bangladeshi government has made it illegal for Jumma tribal people to speak to foreigners, or Bangladeshi citizens from outside the Chittagong Hill Tracts, unless a soldier or government official is present. This order effectively prevents them from speaking out against the theft of their land and the violence perpetrated against them. Survival has condemned this silencing and is calling on the government to cancel the directive immediately.
