Take Action!

Interfaith work isn’t always easy, especially when it means coming together with other faith communities to fight for justice. But when our traditions and values move us to act, we have to do what’s right - even when it’s hard.

Next month, the General Convention of the Episcopal Church will meet in Salt Lake City, and the General Synod of the United Church of Christ will meet in Cleveland. High on their agendas will be resolutions to divest from companies that profit off Israel’s illegal occupation. If even one of these congregations vote to divest, it’ll be huge.

We need to your help to get JVP activists to Cleveland and Salt Lake City to speak out for divestment. Can you chip in $18? Thanks to a generous match, your $18 is worth $36 to our travel fund.

Last year, we stood hand in hand with Presbyterian allies as they took a brave step to align their values with their investments. We didn’t tell them what to do or how to vote - we explained to them how important divestment is to us, as Jews. And we listened to what mattered to them. It was a model of what true interfaith partnerships can be - and the impact they can have for justice.

We’re ready to do it again in Cleveland and Salt Lake City, and to take another huge step forward in our struggle for peace and justice.

Can you donate $18 (matched to $36!) to the JVP travel fund? Your donation will make sure activists for peace and justice can make their voices heard.

The vote at the Presbyterian Church’s General Assembly was extremely narrow - and these votes will be too. Three JVP members are travelling to Salt Lake City, and six to Cleveland to make our case, and I'll be flying out with my colleague Ilana to help them. We’ll also be joined by Palestinian human rights activists who’ll share their own stories of nonviolent resistance to Israeli oppression.

But none of us can get there without you.

These two major church groups represent millions of congregants, and are powerful voices in our nation’s culture. If they take a brave stand and divest from Israeli human rights abuses, it’ll send a message no one can ignore.

JVP members and Palestinian activists are going to fly to Cleveland and Salt Lake City to engage directly and honestly with church activists - if you can help them get there.

Can you donate $18? Your donation will pay for the travel, lodging, and outreach materials our delegation needs. Remember, thanks to a generous match, your donation will go twice as far.

We also know this: Church activists are already coming under tremendous pressure from the right to vote against divestment. They’re being told divestment is guaranteed to tear apart relationships between Jews and Christians.

You and know that’s not true. In fact, we know that coming together to work for justice - like this campaign for divestment does - is exactly what interfaith relationships should look like.

The Episcopal Church and the United Church of Christ are poised to make history, and we need to be there with them. But we can’t make history without you.

Onward,

Alana
