Friends,
Last week, more than 100 researchers raised a unified voice in support of a freeze on tar sands expansion.1
This is big news, but it also confirms what you and I already know: The expansion of the tar sands is incompatible with both climate protection and commitments to honour Indigenous rights and title.
We know that we need to move past the tar sands -- and we know that to do that we need to move toward a renewable, resilient and more just economy. We need an economy that works for people and the planet. It starts with justice, creates good work, clean jobs and healthy communities, recognizes that we have solutions, and shows we know who is responsible for causing the climate crisis.
Most of all, we know that we need to take action to make it happen, and that’s exactly what we're doing on July 4th and... 5th:
On July 4th - There will be a national day of action for jobs, justice and the climate, as communities across the country stage actions to demand clean energy, not unnecessary tar sands expansion pipelines. Click here to find an action near you.
On July 5th - Thousands will take to the streets of downtown Toronto to March for Jobs, Justice and the Climate. If you're close to Toronto, you do not want to miss this moment: click here to RSVP today.
This summer, we need your support more than ever before. With an upcoming federal election in October and another round of international climate negotiations in December, let’s send a clear message to our decision-makers: Canada is ready for real action on jobs, justice and the climate.
The weekend of July 4th and 5th will be a big one and we hope you’ll mobilize with us. Join us on July 4th for the day of action for jobs, justice and the climate, or march with us in downtown Toronto on July 5th.
Onwards,
Cam Fenton
