Reckless, dangerous, and irresponsible Bill C-51 has passed its final vote in the Senate. The government is trying to spit in the face of over 270,000 people like you -- and, as polls show, the vast majority of Canadians. We’re not going to take this lying down - join us as we launch a new action to #KillC51 and send Ottawa a message they can’t ignore.
... Take Action!Paov: I, like many Canadians, am deeply upset right now. The Conservative government has forced Bill C-51 through a final Senate vote despite opposition from hundreds of thousands of Canadians.1
The Conservatives are hoping that we will all give up now. I’m frustrated, but I won’t give up until reckless Bill C-51 is dead. Canada simply cannot afford this reckless, dangerous, and irresponsible assault on our basic freedoms.
We can’t let them get away with this. Your OpenMedia team is responding by launching a new #KillC51 action. Please join us in speaking out as loudly as possible right now.
It’s time to send a message to each political party leader calling on them to commit to repeal and kill Bill C-51. We need to speak out in record numbers now while the media and leaders are paying attention. Will you stand with us now?
Let’s not lose sight of how much we’ve accomplished so far.
Here are just a few of the amazing things that Canadians (huge numbers of people and a diverse range of organizations) opposed to C-51 have accomplished together:
- The NDP (the official opposition) and Green Party joined the fight to oppose C-51, and have pledged to fully repeal the Bill if elected.2,3
- We shook up the process by hand-delivering over 100,000 petition signatures during my testimony before the C-51 parliamentary hearing.4
- Shifted the debate by helping Conservative groups5 and Business Leaders6 publish hard-hitting letters opposing C-51.
- Fundamentally undermined the legitimacy of C-51 by putting forward our own crowdsourced privacy plan.7
You should be proud of being a part of all this. It was honestly lonely when we started this campaign but because of people like you it has become one of the largest campaigns in Canadian history, with over 270,000 people speaking out.
Together we convinced a large majority to oppose this Bill.8
Do you think we should now just give up and go home? Nope, didn’t think so. That’s why we’re rallying Canadians to send Party Leaders a message in language they’ll understand: they’ll pay a steep political price at the ballot box if they support this reckless Bill.
Here’s our bottom line: we’ve been fighting this since Day 1, and you can count on us to keep up that fight until we win. Let’s stand together at KillC51.ca
Thank you for so much for being a part of this,
Steve, on behalf of your OpenMedia team
P.S. Like everything we do at OpenMedia, this campaign has been powered by grassroots support. We’re in this for the long haul -- donations from people like you are what make that possible. Chip in to help us keep fighting C-51 until we’ve seen it repealed.
