The worst pipeline plan possible:

r1

Friends,

I've spent summers on Canada's west coast since I was a child and I’ve never seen anything like the forest fires near Vancouver this month. The city's skyline was barely visible. People with asthma were warned against even setting foot outdoors. We're living in a dangerous time.

Over the last couple of years, every province and territory in Canada has experienced serious problems due to extreme climate change. And the most frustrating thing is that we have yet to see strong regional leadership on climate change.

From now until Friday, July 17th, Canada's premiers will meet in Newfoundland to strike a deal on a cross-Canada Energy Strategy-- and right now, they're planning to fast-track tar sands expansion pipelines like Energy East, which is the opposite of what we need.

Thanks for taking action when these... premiers first started discussing this deal. By signing our petition to stop this deal, you sent a clear message that tar sands and climate action don’t mix.

But with this idea resurfacing, we need your help. Will you help us spread the word and make this petition as big as possible before we deliver it?

People across Canada are ready for climate leadership. Less than two weeks ago, students and communities across Canada staged actions to demand a freeze on tar sands expansion. Soon afterwards, more than 10,000 people convened in downtown Toronto to March for Jobs Justice and the Climate. Like we've said before, this is the start of a long, difficult journey.

And now provincial leaders are planning to start going in the wrong direction. We need to step up and remind them that we want climate action -- which means stopping new pipelines that would expand the tar sands.

Share this petition now and ask your friends to demand that the premiers honour their climate obligations by freezing the tar sands, we’ll be delivering it alongside the growing number of groups across Canada who oppose this backwards plan.

Onwards,

Cam
