Friend,

In early June Sepp Blatter President of FIFA, the world soccer organization, resigned amid a growing corruption scandal.

It’s alleged that over the course of decades, senior FIFA officials lined their pockets with millions of dollars in bribes. To make matters worse, this scandal came to light just days before the start of the Women’s World Cup, an event that’s historically been sidelined by the world soccer organization.

Right now, global citizens around the world are tweeting at FIFA to pressure them to start making things right. We’re calling on them to use the Women’s World Cup as an opportunity to commit $10 million to the girls and women who need it most.

All over the world, women are faced with a host of problems that don’t plague their male counterparts. We see this in the 31 million girls who don’t get the chance to go to school, the 140 million girls who will are projected to become child brides this decade, and the 800 mothers who die every day from preventable pregnancy related-causes.

$10 million represents a tiny fraction of the amount of money allegedly lost to corruption. By committing to spend that money on some of the world’s poorest girls and women instead, we’re asking FIFA to do the bare minimum to start to make amends.

We’ve seen the power that public pressure has on FIFA. Former President Sepp Blatter went from a stunning election victory on a Friday, to being forced out of the top spot by Tuesday.

Let’s make sure FIFA’s new leadership knows we’re serious. Click the button below to join thousands of others raising their voice in a chorus that can’t be ignored.

Throughout the month of June, we’ll be shining a light on issues affecting girls and women that aren’t making headlines. Today we take our first step.

Thanks for doing what you do -
