Friend --
I hope you are well.
I am writing to you today to provide an update on efforts to eliminate homelessness in our city and region.
Controversy during the summer over a proposed designated temporary tenting area has produced a healthy dialogue over how best to respond to the homelessness emergency and provide a basic level of decency and security for every member of our community.
City Council heard that many members of the public favour investments in permanent housing rather than interim measures such as temporary tenting areas.
As a result, I have developed a proposal with Mayor Lisa Helps, Councillor Jeremy Loveday and Capital Regional Hospital District Chair Dave Howe for a Regional Housing First Strategy — to build 367 units of housing with supports by 2018.
The construction cost works out to $11 per household per year, if levied regionally. You can read more here.
I would encourage you to support this proposal by signing this Petition and sending a short email to Capital Regional Hospital District directors (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
Together, we can tackle homelessness and provide better conditions for every member of our community.
All the best,
Ben Isitt
