Friends,
Last night, people power went one step further in bringing climate change to the forefront of this election. Right before the leaders debate on the economy started, people across the country took action to make sure that climate change was on the agenda.
First, climate activists in Calgary delivered a special present to the federal leaders: a gigantic carbon bubble. It was a strong visual reminder that you simply cannot talk about Canada’s economy without talking the climate at the same time.

Then, right as the debate started, the social media feed for the #GlobeDebate was flooded with over 1,135 social media messages asserting that the science of climate change is not up for debate and that Canada needs a clean tar sands free economy.

As for the debate itself, the good... news is that climate and fossil fuels were on the agenda. In fact, the first question probed Stephen Harper about any plans he has for the economy that don’t involved digging things out of the ground.
The bad news: the leaders were thoroughly unimpressive. No one on stage in Calgary delivered any sort of concrete plan in line with scientific reality of climate change..
One thing is clear, closing the gap between the science and politics of climate change in this country is going to take bold action, and that’s why we’re gearing up to launch something big in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more information about the plan and how you can get involved.
Onwards,
Cam
