Tonight is the night!

"My Dangerous Art: Free Expression in a Climate of Fear" with artist Franke James starts in just a few hours. This is a final reminder, with lots of details, about this evening's event! We hope to see you here tonight.

Doors will open at 6:30pm on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Performance Works Theatre on Granville Island (Map).

Get here early to have time to see the more than 30 pieces on display!

Event Summary

Doors will open at 6:30pm, with a one hour reception for viewing Franke's art, grabing snacks and a drink, and learning about the BCCLA's current work at our interactive stations. Franke will deliver her presentation starting at 7:30pm. Following the conclusion of the seated program, guests will be welcome to stay and mingle, the bar closes at 9:30pm.

  • Bring cash! While the event is free of charge and catered snacks will be provided, beverage tickets will be available for purchase at the cash bar. Cash, cheques or credit card can be used for donating to BCCLA or purchasing a BCCLA membership. The nearest ATM to the venue is located inside Granville Island Hotel.
  • Parking - Performance Works is located at 1218 Cartwright Street, next to Ron Basford Park. Parking is free on Granville Island for 3 hours. From 7:00 pm - 7:00 am, all parking is free in all parking areas.
  • Transit - The #50 False Creek bus starts in Gastown in the downtown area and stops just off Granville Island, at the intersection of Anderson St. and West 2nd Ave. For more information about Vancouver's bus system, see www.translink.bc.ca or call TransLink at (604) 953-3333.

ART FOR FREE EXPRESSION: Silent Auction and Limited Edition Posters

  • Limited edition posters! Franke has generously done an exclusive run of 40 posters from her new Free Expression series that she is letting us sell for the amazing price of $25/each.
  • Silent auction! Additionally, three of Franke's bus shelter sized pieces, signed by the artist, will be auctioned off during a silent auction, all in support of our work on free expression. Bids accepted until 9:15pm.
  • The above images are just three examples of the more than 30 original pieces of artwork Franke will have on display at the event!
