Sounding the TTIP alarm across the European Union

There is a great deal of opposition to ISDS in TTIP; so much so, that many think either ISDS will have to come out of the deal or be radically modified, or it will be defeated in Europe. Already, the European Commission has proposed ISDS ‘reforms’ to TTIP that would set up a new European Investment Court that... would be more transparent and accountable, although still unacceptable to most of us.

Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow spoke in Manchester on Monday (Nov. 2) in opposition to the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), the United States-European Union Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) provision.

The Council of Canadians Powell River chapter has collected water at Willingdon Beach, located on the eastern shores of the Salish Sea, to send to Justin Trudeau to remind him of what tar sands pipelines put at risk.


Northwest Territories chapter draws water from Great Slave Lake for Trudeau

The Council of Canadians Northwest Territories chapter has drawn a jar of water from Great Slave Lake to send to Justin Trudeau. The water will be part of a 'climate welcome' action in Ottawa on Nov. 7 to remind the new prime minister about the threats posed by tar sands expansion and pipelines to waterways across this country.

The Council of Canadians is calling on the Trudeau government to restore the blue pages to telephone directories across the country.
