Trudeau government backs Energy East, supports tar sands expansion
On the same day that US President Barack Obama rejected the proposed 830,000 barrel per day Keystone XL pipeline, highlighting that approving the pipeline would undermine efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions, the government of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came out in support of the larger 1.1 million barrel per day... Energy East pipeline.
Health Accord talks could begin as early as this week
The new Liberal health minister could begin meeting with provincial and territorial health ministers as early as next week to initiate talks on a new Canada Health Accord.
Saint John opts for Spanish company for its P3 drinking water system
Saint John city council is moving ahead with a public-private partnership (P3) for a new 100 million litre per day drinking water treatment plant, three 11 million litre storage reservoirs and fifteen other water transmission system improvements.
Council backs Lax Kw'alaams Hereditary Chief's letter to prime minister opposing LNG project
The Council of Canadians has signed on to an open letter written by Lax Kw’alaams Hereditary Chief Yahaan (Donnie Wesley) calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Environment Minister Catherine McKenna to reject the Pacific Northwest liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal proposed for Lax U'u'la (Lelu Island) and Flora Bank, and to cancel ongoing test-drilling at the site.
26 chapters organize 'This Changes Everything' film screenings
On October 5, Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow introduced Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis at the Mayfair Theatre in Ottawa for the first non-film festival screening of the film.
