Council of Canadians opposes FDA approval of genetically-modified salmon as food

This approval is a major development in that it’s the first genetically modified animal approved for sale as food in the world.

Trudeau abandons Harper's unpopular P3 requirement for infrastructure funding

The Council of Canadians is opposed to public-private partnerships... (P3s). We were particularly opposed to a provision in the Harper government's $14 billion Building Canada Fund that required any infrastructure project worth more than $100-million seeking federal support to be approved by a Crown corporation called P3 Canada.

Barlow in Bregenz and Geneva for Right Livelihood Award events

Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow tweeted earlier today: "In beautiful Bregenz Austria for their "Project of Hope" event with other Right Livelihood Laureates Sima Simar and Jumanda Gakelbone."

Council of Canadians Blood Reserve chapter formed

The Blood Tribe, also known as the Kainai Nation, is located approximately 200 kilometres south of Calgary. They are one of the three nations that comprise the Blackfoot Confederacy and speak a language of the Algonquin linguistic group.

London chapter opposes Hydro One sale with street art

The Council of Canadians London chapter is opposing the sale of Hydro One by placing large cut outs of geese and eggs around their community.

PEI chapter screens This Changes Everything

The Council of Canadians Prince Edward Island chapter had a successful screening of This Changes Everything at Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown last night.

Trudeau's natural resources minister says 'the process continues' for pipeline reviews

In his mandate letter to natural resources minister James Carr, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau outlines top priorities: "...immediately review Canada’s environmental assessment processes to regain public trust and introduce new, fair processes that will..."
