Shut the frack up!
Imagine the tap water in your home was so contaminated with toxic chemicals that you could light it on fire...
When Jessica Ernst complained that fracking was ruining her drinking water, Alberta's energy regulator tried to shut her up.
So Jessica is fighting back, all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Today the BC Civil Liberties Association appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in Jessica Ernst's case arguing that we must be able to hold energy regulators accountable when they violate Charter rights.
Check out my blog post on Jessica's eight year battle over fracking and Charter rights.
At the BCCLA we’ve seen – and fought – these kinds of attempts to shut out and shut up Canadians before. We are glad to have joined Jessica today at the Supreme Court of Canada as she fights for the rights of all of us to participate in important public debates, to speak out, and to hold energy regulators accountable when our Charter rights are violated.
Let us know what you think!
Warmly,
