A,
Monsanto just filed a lawsuit against California to stop the US state from adding glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) to its list of chemicals that cause cancer. In the lawsuit, Monsanto calls California's environmental agency an "unelected, undemocratic, unaccountable and foreign body".
We don't know if the CEO of Monsanto, Hugh Grant, approved the lawsuit's choice words -- but if he did, then so did his boss. Because Monsanto's CEO is his own boss. The chair of Monsanto’s board and its CEO are the same person: Hugh Grant. With nobody their boss has to answer to, it’s all too easy for Monsanto’s controversial approach to doing business to go unchecked.
Today, we have a real chance to push Monsanto to sort this problem out. At their AGM, we’ve put down a shareholder resolution that would make sure the CEO and Chair are different people.
Now we need to make sure people at the AGM understand why they should vote to sort out the board at Monsanto. Can you share this simple video, to help get the word out?
Watch and share the video now to call for accountability for Monsanto CEO Hugh Grant.
Thanks for all that you do,
Paul, Wiebke, Lisa, Nabil and the team at SumOfUs
