A national strike today organised by the main trade union confederations in Morocco, the ITUC-affiliated UMT, CDT and UGTM, along with the FDT and teachers’ union SNES, has received strong backing from workers and the public throughout the country.

FIFA Candidate’s Independent Reform Pledge a Positive Step
A pledge by one of the candidates for election as FIFA President on 26 February has been welcomed as a positive step by the ITUC. Jordan’s Prince Ali has committed to setting up an independent FIFA oversight commission, headed by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, if elected.

European trade unions are warning that a landmark EU court decision on private Internet use during working hours shouldn’t be “a green light for a free-for-all invasion” of employee privacy, despite fears that this could signal the introduction of tough, US-style corporate policies.
