Canada maintains development budget

Hello PAOV,
A few weeks ago we asked Global Citizens all around Canada to send an email to the Canadian government to tell them to start making predictable increases to the aid budget starting with this year’s budget.
The budget was released on Tuesday and unfortunately funding to development has not been increased. Funding has not decreased either, which is positive.
The Budget has committed to modestly increase short term funding to the International Assistance Envelope by $256 million over the next two years, which is to be applauded. However, the Government did not seize this opportunity to match its strong statements that “Canada is back” with concrete commitments for Canadian international engagement.
While... this isn’t the victory we were hoping for, together we will continue to call on this government to do its part to achieve the Global Goals and defeat extreme poverty in all its forms.
