INTERNET INSIDER
March 18, 2016
... After a very long, busy Wednesday, OpenMedia filed an intervention with the BC Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner in Canada about the potential use of Stingray surveillance technologies by the Vancouver Police Department to intercept and collect phone data. It’s been truly exciting for us to lead such a substantive policy intervention and put our stake in the ground on this important threat to our privacy rights. We know these devices are being used in other countries including the U.S. and Australia, and other governments are fighting to keep their use a secret.
Rest assured, we will be sure to keep you updated of any new developments, and what you can do to put a stop to invasive Stingray surveillance around the globe. You can read the full intervention here.
