For the last few weeks, I've been residing in Treaty No. 6 Territory in Amiskwaci/Edmonton planning PowerShift Alberta. This is not my home, and I didn't know what to expect in organizing a youth climate justice gathering in the heart of oil country. We are now just less than two weeks out and I couldn't be more optimistic, and excited.
PowerShift Atlantic in 2014 was an incredibly formative experience for me. It brought me into a community of people who were passionate, knowledgeable and ready to build the kind of future they wanted to see. PowerShift has helped to train and empower thousands of youth in Canada since 2009 to take action on climate change. PowerShift Alberta is a catalyst moment for young people in the Prairies to help drive a justice-based transition to a fossil free economy. It is a moment to come together to shape our analysis, build skills, and lay the groundwork for long-term relationships that allow us to take action to ensure the future we face is one of our own shaping.

PowerShift Alberta will be enriched by keynote speeches and workshops by leaders from many parts of community and climate organizing including: Treaty No.6 Grand Chief Tony Alexis, Crystal Lameman, Melina Laboucan-Massimo, Caleb Behn, Tasha Spillet, Andrew Nikiforuk, Dana Tizya-Tramm and Tamo Campos. Panels discussion and break out discussions will allow us to dig deeper into the root causes of climate change and climate injustice. While workshops will equip us with the tools needed in order to go home and organize in the communities where we work and live.If you have been to PowerShift, you are in a great position to encourage your friends living in the Prairies or Alberta to attend by forwarding this email or inviting them personally. If you aren't connected in that part of Turtle Island, help us promote PowerShift to your networks through email, twitter and facebook. This is the year where we will ask our friends, acquaintances, loved ones, and hopefully even strangers to take our hand and act with us. Together we have real community-based solutions that can lead a just transition for a safe, livable and prosperous future for all.
