MIGRANT CAREGIVERS: AN INVISIBLE WORKFORCE

In January of 2014, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) launched a pilot initiative called Project Guardian which would search for and detain migrant caregivers in British Columbia and the Yukon who work under the table, without a work permit.
When the West Coast Domestic Workers’ Association filed an Access to Information request, they discovered that 33 cases were being investigated. Read more!
ALBERTA NDP'S $15 MINIMUM WAGE: AN EMPTY PROMISE?

On April 15th, the Fight for $15 movement came to Calgary and Edmonton, furthering the development of a militant rank-and-file labour movement in Canada’s conservative heartland. Workers in Edmonton held an information picket at the University of Alberta, talking to students, gathering hundreds of petition signatures calling for a province-wide $15 minimum wage immediately. AUSTERITY VS. THE PLANET: THE FUTURE OF LABOUR ENVIRONMENTALISM

Last December members of the International Trade Union Confederation joined other civil society activists in a mass sit-in at the COP21 talks in Paris. Unionists and their allies, some 400 strong, filled the social space adjacent to the negotiating rooms for several hours, in defiance of a French ban on protests that remained in effect in the wake of the November 13 terrorist attacks.
