Palestinians are locked up and locked out -- why? For being Palestinian.
Poets are under house arrest for reading poems. Children are in jail for dissenting Facebook posts. Scientists are imprisoned indefinitely under “administrative detention.” Internationally renowned nonviolent movement leaders are blocked from leaving the country.
JVP artists, academics, members, and staff are organizing around the clock to demand justice for these individuals -- Dareen Tatour, Omar Barghouti, Imad Barghouti -- and more broadly to help dismantle the status quo of apartheid and occupation that daily visits such injustice on all Palestinians.
This month, we need to bring 1,800 new and renewing members into JVP. In the winning tradition of labor unions and neighborhood organizing, JVP is a membership organization. Against the massive machinery upholding Israeli occupation we must build strength one by one. Jews and allies, students and academics, artists and authors -- people from coast to coast are coming together to build a movement strong and loud and unstoppable enough to take on the might of the Israel lobby -- and win.
This very week we’re moving these campaigns forward with the power of our grassroots membership: JVP artist council members are translating contraband poetry, JVP academic council members are strategizing with our partners in the US and Palestine/Israel, and members and chapters are marching on embassies, calling the State Department, and meeting with their representatives
We need you to stand up and be counted as a JVP member, because the fights we have to take on require not just a campaign, but a movement.
