Energy East has no place in a climate plan.

Any proper review of Energy East would conclude it cannot be built. r1

Friends,

Yesterday, the National Energy Board announced it will start its review process for the Energy East pipeline.

We know that any proper review of this pipeline will conclude that it simply cannot be built. Energy East is heavily opposed by communities along its route -- from Manitoba, to Quebec, to New Brunswick. The project does not have the consent of First Nations. And the pipeline, which would pump 1.1 million barrels of dirty tar sands oil to the Atlantic Coast everyday, is also bound to fail any kind of climate test.

It’s time for Canada to move beyond the tar sands in order to take bold, ambitious climate action -- and right now, we have a unique opportunity to get this message across to federal leaders.... Since April, MPs across the country have been hosting public townhalls to consult their constituents about a national climate strategy. Hundreds of people have filled up the room at each one of these townhalls to speak up for the ‘People’s Climate Plan.’

You can join this crucial moment -- click here to find a climate townhall near your community.

By standing up for the ‘People’s Climate Plan’ we’ve called for a national climate strategy that keeps fossil fuels in the ground, builds a 100% renewable energy economy by 2050, and enshrines justice for Indigenous peoples, workers, and people hit hardest by the climate crisis. We know that if we push national climate action in this direction, it will make it impossible for the government to approve new pipelines.

Together, we’re raising the bar for ambitious climate policy in Canada -- and with dozens of new townhalls announced for the rest of summer, we need to keep the momentum going. Click here to find out exactly when and where you need to show up to bring the ‘People’s Climate Plan’ to your MP.

In addition to mobilizing for the People’s Climate Plan, we’ll continue to support Indigenous communities and local, frontline groups with their fights against tar sands pipelines. We’re also planning something big in the fall to hold the government accountable right as they unveil their national climate strategy.

Thank you for carrying this movement forward with me,

Aurore and the 350 team in Canada
