Re: Joining the CoDev Board of Directors
If you have been a member of CoDev for no fewer than 60 days prior to the annual general meeting, you are eligible to be elected to our Board of Directors at our Annual General Meeting on September 15, 2016 (Heartwood Café. 317 E Broadway, Vancouver). For 2016, this would mean that you would have to be a member of CoDev on or before July 16, 2016.
We invite eligible CoDev members to consider applying to the Board. If interested, please complete and submit the Board Candidate Form at the link below no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2016, for photocopying.
CoDev Board Candidate Form
Statements of Intent provided in the application will be circulated to the Board, and candidates will be asked to speak briefly at our AGM. We will also take nominations from the floor at that time.
Board Duties
CoDevelopment Canada is a Vancouver-based civil society organization that uses a solidarity model to facilitate partnerships between Canadian and Latin American social organizations. CoDev has a flat staff structure, with all workers receiving the same salary and making decisions at regular staff-meetings. The Executive Director serves as the liaison between the Board Executive Committee and the CoDev staff.
CoDev’s Board is a working board that meets once a month (with a summer recess) in the Vancouver area to exchange with CoDev staff, discuss projects, establish priorities, set policy, coordinate events and confer on the direction of our organization. Board meeting schedules are set at the first meeting following the AGM. For the past several years they have been set for 5-7 PM on the second Wednesday of the month.
Board members are expected to participate in at least 2 CoDev’s committees (e.g. communications, fundraising, board development, personnel, etc.), which meet as needed - usually a few times a year. Other commitments include participating in an annual strategic planning day on a Saturday, helping at CoDev’s Annual Fund Raising Dinner, outreach activities such as staffing tables at events of Canadian partners, helping to organize CoDev public events, or accompanying visiting representatives of Latin American partners.
