PepsiCo workers fight for their rights in Pakistan

Since the PepsiCo Workers' Union at a plant in Lahore, Pakistan was registered and officially granted collective bargaining rights, union officers have been targeted for disciplinary procedures on false charges. The union president has been transferred out of the plant to prevent contact with its 650 members. The company has registered a fake national union claiming to represent workers at two different sites. Union members are being denied overtime and pressured to leave the union. The International Union of Foodworkers (IUF) has launched an online protest campaign. Please take a moment to support it:

Want to work for LabourStart?
We're offering a paid internship in London -- but you must live in the UK in order to apply. If you know any suitable candidates, please share this message with them. The deadline is just eight days from now. Full details are here:

Help save the UMass Labor Center
The University of Massachusetts Labor Center is under attack and needs our help. University administrators are taking governance of the program out of the hands of Labor Center faculty, have effectively eliminated the Center's professional staff administrator position, and removed the Center's director. With these changes, it becomes impossible for the Labor Center to continue to welcome all students, labor leaders, and rank-and-file activists regardless of class, race, nationality, or ability to pay. Learn more and support the Labor Center here:

UnionBook closed
After nearly eight years, LabourStart has closed down the UnionBook social network. We thank everyone who was involved in this project. A short explanation is here -- including what to do now:

Thanks -- and have a great weekend.
