INTERNET INSIDER
September 16, 2016
... Regular readers of the Internet Insider will know that the past few weeks have been a busy time for digital rights, with barely a day or two going by without a major new development.
This week was no exception: on Tuesday, we broke the big news that, for the first time ever, OpenMedia will be intervening in a critical Supreme Court case that could shape the future of the Internet. As our own Meghan Sali explains, although this case will be heard in Canada, it will have huge implications for Internet users everywhere.
This is the first time we’ve ever intervened in a case like this, and it’s a big (and expensive!) step for our small team. Our fund development director Alana is already in overdrive ensuring we have the funds we need to pull this off: you can join our crowdfunding effort right here.
And that’s not all that’s happened this week: yesterday morning the European Commission made the Link Tax official, as part of some of the worst copyright rules in the world. This terrible idea, which will dramatically restrict our right to share and access content, will now be considered by the European Parliament, where we’ll be making sure your voices get heard. You can speak up here, and spread the word on Facebook and Twitter.
And finally (told you it was a busy week!), we’re gearing up for tomorrow’s big Rock Against the TPP concert in Toronto, with special guest Evangeline Lilly. If you (or someone you know) is in the Toronto area, we still have some FREE tickets up for grabs right here.
