The World Needs to Know About This

Hi there!

I’m writing today with a rare request. It’s been nearly a year since we last asked for donations from readers, but right now we have an extremely urgent opportunity and we need your help.

As summer turns to fall, this could be the last opportunity to photograph the Peace River Valley in northeastern B.C. before it’s destroyed by construction on the Site C dam.

Because of the tight timeline before snow starts to fall, we took a leap of faith and agreed to send a National Geographic-calibre photographer into the field.

Can you donate $25, $50 or $100 to help document the beauty of the Peace Valley and draw the world’s attention to its imminent destruction?

Construction beginning this fall was authorized under permits issued by the Trudeau government — permits DeSmog Canada was the first to report on and were issued despite ongoing court challenges by Treaty 8 First Nations.

Just yesterday, a new court challenge was launched against those permits. The fight for the Peace Valley is far from over — especially if we can get images of this incredible place in front of tens of thousands of Canadians.

We need to raise $2,500 in the next week. Can you make a donation today?

When we started reporting on the Site C dam two years ago, only four in 10 British Columbians had ever heard of the project. Now, Site C is getting national and international attention. The tide is turning.

We’ve been told by people in the Peace Valley that while mainstream media has failed to pay attention to their plight, our reporting has given them hope.

We believe that just because a place is out of sight, that doesn’t mean it should be out of mind.

If you agree, can you give $25, $50 or $100 right now?

If Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and B.C. Premier Christy Clark truly are going to authorize the destruction of the Peace Valley — despite the fact there’s no proven need for the power — then you better believe we'll make sure it's something the whole world knows about.

A picture truly can be worth a thousand words.

Please give generously to put the world’s eyes on the Peace Valley.

Thanks for all you do,

Emma Gilchrist
Executive Director
