Disrupting Islamophobia in Our Neighborhoods

In airports, through police surveillance, at press conferences and political rallies: stereotyping and scapegoating of Muslims is pervasive - and all too often, even celebrated.

But we can help stop it.

Since January, JVP chapters and members have posted thousands of “Stop Profiling Muslim” posters in restaurants, bodegas, storefronts, and homes from Seattle to Boston. Because sometimes, the simplest actions can go a long way.

JVP members across the country are signed up to canvass with these posters in the next few weeks. Can you chip in $10 to help print and ship them?

Looking at any paper or newscast, it’s inescapable. Major political leaders, no matter their political differences otherwise, promote Islamophobia--either openly declaring Muslims a threat to national security or attempting to carve out a limited exception for those considered “good” Muslims.

The consequences are real: this rhetorical and actual bigotry is incredibly destructive and creates a climate in which anti-Muslim violence is acceptable and inevitable.

And the relationship between Islamophobia and Israel is strong and deep. Right now, the US is finalizing a military aid plan for Israel that will top $40 billion. Islamophobia here and there is a central component of the political context for such a horrific investment in violence. And we know that military aid to Israel also reinforces militarism inside the US.

It’s appalling that we have to make such a simple statement - stop profiling Muslims - but we do. One of the most important things we can do is to make our neighborhoods and communities a visible force disrupting Islamophobia.

Can you make a donation today to help us print and distribute more posters? If we can raise $2,000 we can get 1,000 more posters into communities around the country.

It’s critical that we demonstrate, with total clarity, that we stand against Islamophobia and profiling of any kind.
