I believe we will win this one.

We're bringing the Kinder Morgan fight to Ottawa. Here's how you can help. r1

(You already got one email from us yesterday by accident about a bus leaving Toronto -- please ignore, unless you happen to be in that area. My apologies for the mistake!)

Friends,

Four years ago, I was organizing my first action for the climate justice movement. I was working with a campus-based group in British Columbia to demand that the premier of the province, Christy Clark, oppose the Kinder Morgan tar sands pipeline.

At the time, we were a small but passionate group of students and faculty – and the fight against Kinder Morgan was big and daunting. I was hopeful but it was difficult to be optimistic. Oh, how much things have changed.

On Monday, over a hundred youth and students will risk arrest in Ottawa... for the Climate 101 action and, together, we will call on Prime Minister Trudeau to reject the Kinder Morgan pipeline. This will be the largest and most powerful demonstration against the project to take place outside of British Columbia.

Show your support for these courageous young people and sign up to help us amplify their action. The more eyes we have on this, the more impactful it will be.

It’s remarkable how much stronger the fight against Kinder Morgan has gotten over the last four years. Led by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, the people of British Columbia have organized an immovable wall of resistance to the pipeline. The Coast Salish First Nations stand in unanimous opposition to the project. The mayors of Vancouver and Burnaby have joined the fight. Even Premier Christy Clark now opposes this pipeline.

Today, with less than two months until a federal decision on Kinder Morgan, I am not just optimistic -- I truly believe that our movement has what it takes to win. But I know that in order to win, we need to continue pushing the movement against Kinder Morgan to new heights. It’s time to take this fight to the next level by bringing it to the capital city of Canada.

We’ll need your support to make our civil disobedience action in Ottawa all the more impactful -- sign up to support the young people taking action. We’ll keep you in the loop about what you can do to help.

When we risk arrest in Ottawa on Monday, it will be scary. But we will have the reassurance of our supporters across the country and around the world. Just today, 10 movement leaders including Naomi Klein, Bill McKibben, Grand Chief Stewart Philip, and David Suzuki published a letter to Trudeau in support of the Climate 101 action. Join them and pledge your support for this action.

A year ago today, Justin Trudeau woke up for the first time as the leader of Canada. Shortly afterwards, he became the first Prime Minister to appoint himself Minister of Youth for this country. On Monday, as the youth of this country, we will hold him accountable to the promises he has made to protect our future.

Onwards,
Atiya

P.S. If you’re a young person who can make it to Ottawa on October 24th, please sign up now to get more information on the action.
