Watch: the power of 99 arrests.

See the highlights from my arrest last week at the Climate 101 action. r1

Friends,

A week ago, I got arrested with 98 other young people on the doorsteps of Parliament Hill calling on Prime Minister Trudeau to reject the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

Many people, including our friends, family, colleagues, and the media, have asked us why were willing to get arrested to stop this pipeline.

Ultimately, the answer is pretty simple: my generation has the power to hold our government accountable. Watch the highlights from our arrests last Monday to see for yourself:

With a surge in youth turnout in last year’s election, my generation helped deliver the Trudeau government its mandate, so much so that many pollsters... and pundits point to millennials as the main reason the Liberal Party currently has a majority.

Monday’s action on Parliament Hill put Justin Trudeau on notice — if he approves a pipeline, he’s going to lose millennials. If he loses millennials, he could lose the 2019 election.

The Climate 101 action was just the beginning. We’ll continue to stand with the Tsleil-Waututh and other Indigenous communities leading the fight for justice on the frontlines. We’ll stand strong against pipelines because young people like myself have never lived a month below average temperatures. Time is too short and the consequences of inaction are too great -- as we’ve already seen with the Great Barrier Reef die off, wildfires in western Canada, and as rising sea levels swallow parts of small island states.

We are not stopping. We’ll continue to build this movement in our communities. And we hope that you will continue to stand with us. Visit the Climate 101 website to see photos and media coverage of our action -- and please share this website on your social media channels.

With hope and determination,

Amanda
