A,

When Donald Trump won the presidential election, we expected the worst.

But he’s not even in office yet, and he’s already confirming our worst fears for people and our beautiful planet. There might not be much left after Trump has wreaked havoc on the world for four years.

Just days after winning the presidency, he has announced that he is planning to quit the Paris Climate Deal and he hired a climate change denier to oversee the transition of the Environmental Protection Agency.

This just shows once again that despite Trump’s anti-establishment rhetoric, his agenda is about cosying up with big business, and giving a hand out to the the fossil fuel industry. If we let him, Trump will destroy all that we hold dear.

Can you chip in now to stop this madness?

When we asked SumOfUs members like you last week how our movement should respond to Trump’s election, two big issues came up again and again: we must stand with those who are most vulnerable to Trump, and we must fight for climate justice.

After a hard week of soul-searching and mourning, this is exactly what we are planning to do.

The people who are most vulnerable to Trump’s presidency -- immigrants, people of color, Muslims, and disabled people who Trump has insulted and vilified -- are also the communities who will be hardest hit by climate change, and who are most exploited by global corporations.

And so, in our fight for climate justice we cannot forget that climate change is exacerbating inequality, and is impacting those who are already vulnerable the most.

People of color are more likely to live on the front lines of toxic projects. They are more likely to have a pipeline project deemed too toxic for another community routed through theirs. And today, they face the impacts not just of Trump’s climate denial, but also of his racism and xenophobia too.

Trump might be the next president, but our movement is more powerful than him and his cronies in big business if we act together. We need all the resources that we can muster to protect people and our planet. And we don’t have much time.

Let’s get to work.

Please chip in to save our planet from Trump.
