Friends,
Growing up near Ottawa, one of my favorite things to do was visit the Museum of History with my family. It’s one of the most popular and iconic museums in Canada, visited by over 1 million people a year.
As a young adult, I was disturbed to find out that the Museum of History receives money from a dangerous oil lobby group: the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). Big Oil pays CAPP the big bucks to buy off our politicians and weaken our laws making it easier to expand tar sands and build massive pipelines, like Keystone XL.
As someone who is deeply concerned about climate change, I believe CAPP has no place in our trusted museums. Will you join me and add your... name to this petition calling on the Museum of History to cut its ties to CAPP?
Watch this video to find out more about why I’m taking a stand:
Sign the petition now to tell the Museum to stand on the right side of history.
Thanks to its sponsorship agreement, CAPP receives brand promotion at the Museum of History and exclusive access to events with political leaders. This kind of validation is what allows CAPP to carry out its dirty work, like lobbying the federal government to approve the Kinder Morgan pipeline and pouring millions of dollars into BC political parties. CAPP’s overall mission is clearly to block climate action, oppose environmental protection, and push an agenda that violates Indigenous rights. The Museum of History, on the other hand, strives to be “a source of inspiration, research, learning, and entertainment.” These two missions are completely at odds.
In just a month, the Museum of History Board -- the Museum’s most important decision makers -- will meet for their Annual General Meeting. Our goal is to show up at the meeting with 10,000 petitions signatures calling on them to cut ties with CAPP. Help us get there.
If we all speak up together, we will show the decision makers at the Museum of History that people across the country expect them to end their relationship with Big Oil.
With determination,
