Upcoming February Events

Hello comrades and friends!

We've had some fantastic events this past January! Let's keep up the momentum as we dive into more complex topics like the Russian Revolution and the class nature of fascism.

All events will be held at QV Cafe (1701 Government St).
The links lead to the literature being discussed - prior reading is encouraged but not required. Discussion is open to everybody in a safe environment and every opinion will be heard.
Here are the four events we will be doing in February

February 4th @ 7:00PM - Fascism: What It Is and How To Fight It

Is Donald Trump a fascist? How about ISIS? The Ukrainian militia forces? The recent rise in movements linked to racism and xenophobia should be concerning to everyone. To better combat the increasingly reactionary politics of the right-wing, we must understand the class forces that lead to fascism. The pamphlet Fascism: What It Is and... How To Fight It was written by Leon Trotsky and analyzes the rise of fascism in Spain and Germany in the 1930s. See link: http://bit.ly/23AhuDU

February 11th @ 7:00PM - The Lessons of October 1917

The period between the February Revolution that overthrew the Tsar and the October Revolution that overthrew the Provisional Government was a chaotic scene in which the people of Russia were able to experience more change in ten months than in the previous century. The Lessons of October, written by Trotsky, was a summary of the main events during that period and how they lead to the establishment of the first socialist state. See link: http://bit.ly/1P3ZGqQ

February 18th @ 7:00PM - The Transitional Program

How can the modern left decide on the most immediate aims and goals it should strive for? What kind of demands can be realized and benefit the consciousness of working class? The idea behind Trotsky's Transitional Program was that demands should be understood to be a victory for the working class but also just one victory in a long road that would lead to complete emancipation for the class.

February 25th @ 7:00PM - What Happened to the Arab Revolution

Five years ago, without any organization, programme, plan or preparation the Arab masses overthrew several dictatorial regimes that had lasted for decades. Today, the situation in the region is in stark contrast to the optimism, hope and spirit of struggle that characterized the first days of the revolution. Why has this come about?
