Leading the legal fight for animal protection
Groundbreaking new animal protection bill tabled in Parliament
Dear PAOV,
We have big news!
Liberal Member of Parliament Nathaniel Erskine-Smith has introduced C-246, the Modernizing Animal Protections Act. This groundbreaking new bill will end shark finning, ban the import of cat and dog fur into our country, require labelling of fur products, and close dangerous loopholes in our... animal cruelty laws.
Canada is decades behind other developed countries when it comes to animal welfare. For over 15 years, I've watched nearly every single attempt to improve federal laws fail. As a compassionate society, I think we've all felt the heartbreak of seeing our elected representatives ignore the immense suffering animals endure every single day.
But the tide is turning. Last fall, Canadians elected the most animal-friendly Parliament in history. Many MPs and senators are strongly committed to helping animals.
After years of inaction at the federal level, now is the time to act. Mr. Erskine-Smith's bill is a huge opportunity to start bringing Canada's animal protection laws into the 21st century.
There's still a long road ahead before the Modernizing Animal Protections Act can be passed into law, and we need your help. Please consider donating to Animal Justice to support our efforts to pass this crucial legislation.
But more importantly, please write to your MP today to ask them to support C-246 and save countless sharks, cats, dogs, and other animals from unspeakable cruelty and abuse.
Thank you for speaking up for animals!
