Authorities refuse to stop Canada Goose deception
The federal Competition Bureau just informed us that it won't act to stop jacket company Canada Goose from falsely claiming that using coyote fur is humane. Trapping and snaring coyotes for their fur is unavoidably cruel, which is why we demanded the Competition Bureau stop Canada Goose from trying to dupe consumers into buying fur. Our legal team... is now exploring the next steps in our campaign to stop Canada Goose's deception. Watch Global TV's coverage of our work. >>
Groundbreaking animal cruelty bill introduced in Parliament
Liberal Member of Parliament Nathaniel Erskine-Smith is a hero for animals! Mr. Erskine-Smith just introduced Bill C-246, which would bring Canada's animal cruelty laws into the 21st century, ban shark finning, and ban cat and dog fur. But there's still a long road ahead before Bill C-246 becomes law, and we need your help. Write to your MP today and ask them to support this important bill. >>
Our newest supporter: Don Cherry
Animal Justice got a high-profile boost this month when hockey legend Don Cherry supported our work to save 21 dogs from court-ordered execution. The Ontario SPCA rescued the dogs from an alleged dog fighting ring, but now wants the court to execute them. Animal Justice is asking the court for permission to intervene in the case so we can fight to save the lives of these innocent dogs, and we couldn't be more thankful for Don Cherry's support. Help us win this case. >>
Tackling Safeway's false claims of "Certified Humane" chicken meat
Animal Justice is demanding federal regulators take action to stop Safeway from illegally misleading consumers about the company's line of Certified Humane chicken meat. So-called Certified Humane meat comes from chickens who are raised in conditions barely above industry standards, and who will never see sunlight, breathe fresh air, or scratch in the dirt. Find out how Safeway is preying on ethical consumers. >>
Protecting cats and dogs in Ottawa
Animal Justice is supporting a City of Ottawa plan to ban the retail sale of cat, dogs, and rabbits in city pet stores. Instead of selling animals, pet stores would be encouraged help adopt shelter and rescue animals into loving homes. Countless other cities have already banned pet sales in a bid to shut down cruel puppy and kitten mills, save shelter pets from euthanasia, and encourage people to think of animals as lifelong companions instead of mere consumer items. Dairy farm charged with cow cruelty
Prosecutors finally laid charges against Canada's largest dairy operation, nearly two years after Chilliwack Cattle Sales was exposed for its culture of rampant cruelty and neglect toward gentle cows. We're pleased that management was charged alongside the workers, but dismayed that more serious criminal charges were not pursued in this case of blatant cow abuse. Learn why the Chilliwack charges are cause for celebration, dismay, and reform. >>
