Animal Justice fights in court to save 21 dogs
from death row
Dear PAOV,
I'm writing with an urgent update on our legal battle to save 21 dogs who were rescued from an alleged dogfighting ring last October.
Animal Justice went to court in Chatham, Ontario yesterday to stop these innocent dogs from being executed.
Shockingly, the Ontario SPCA is asking a judge to kill the 21 dogs, claiming they are pit bulls and the public won't be safe as long as they're alive.
But that's simply not true. Dogs rescued from fighting rings have been successfully rehabilitated, most notably NFL player Michael Vick's former fighting dogs.
Animal Justice is asking the court to let us intervene in the case so we can speak on behalf of the dogs, who have no voices of their own. Even the Ontario SPCA -- which is supposed to protect animals -- is fighting to have them killed.
Without us in their corner, they don't stand a chance.
The next court date is May 18, and we urgently need your help before then. Litigation is expensive, and it's only thanks to supporters like you that we can do this work.
We recently got a boost from hockey legend Don Cherry, who pledged his support.
