Supreme Court says most bestiality is legal

Dear PAOV,
We have some disturbing news.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that some forms of bestiality are LEGAL in
Canada. According to the Supreme Court, sexually abusing animals is only
a crime if the abuse involves intercourse.
The judges acknowledged in their ruling that it's important
to protect animals from abuse. But Canada's laws are so
outdated that most judges felt they had no other choice but to
rule the way they did.
Animal Justice was granted permission to intervene in the case to fight on behalf of animals. We
argued at the hearing that society cares deeply about... animals, and that that
vulnerable animals must have legal protection from this type of sickening
abuse.
The case is a wake up call that our animal laws need to be overhauled
right away. Now, it's up to Parliament to act to protect animals.
We need your support to ensure the laws are

doesn't take action, defenceless animals will be left
vulnerable to sickening sexual abuse.

passes Bill C-246, a private
member's bill by MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith that would close the bestiality
loophole and fix our broken animal cruelty laws.
