No second chance for vet who abused pets
After shocking footage surfaced of a veterinarian hitting, punching, and choking his animal patients, Animal Justice mobilized the public to demand that the College of Veterinarians of Ontario revoke his license forever—instead of the slap-on-the-wrist suspension he got away with. We also filed a criminal complaint, and authorities opened a criminal investigation into the vet's actions.

Canada's own version of "ag gag" laws?
Animal Justice is asking the B.C. Court of Appeal for permission to intervene in a dangerous new lawsuit. The Vancouver Aquarium is abusing copyright law to shut down Vancouver Aquarium Uncovered—a film critical of keeping whales and dolphins in captivity. The case could drastically affect the ability of animal advocates to do undercover investigations into animal cruelty, and to otherwise film and expose animal abuse.

Food fraud alert: Loblaws' pork
Grocery store Loblaws is running online ads claiming its pork products are "Made With Love", but the truth is, there's nothing loving about Canadian pig farming. Pigs are crammed into dark, filthy barns, and hidden camera videos have exposed the horrifying abuse these sensitive, intelligent animals endure on farms and during transport.

Misleading circus ads removed from TTC
We won a victory against the circus industry this month: the Toronto Transit Commission removed misleading Shrine Circus ads after Animal Justice filed a legal complaint. The ads promoted elephant acts, even tough U.S. authorities refused to let the Shrine Circus bring elephants into Canada this year. Elephants don't belong in cruel and outdated circuses!
Dogs don't deserve the death penalty
Animal Justice continues to fight an attempt by the Ontario SPCA to have a court to order the execution of 21 dogs, rescued from a dogfighting operation near Chatham, Ontario. We'll be back in court on November 3 to ask for permission to intervene in the case so we can show the court how the dogs can be rehabilitated, and why they deserve a second chance.
Veg fests galore!
Animal Justice took part in veg fests in Toronto, Guelph, and Windsor this month, and our executive director Camille Labchuk participated in a panel discussion on women in animal advocacy at the Toronto Veg Food Fest, and our communications strategist Kimberly Carroll moderated panels about online advocacy and vegan health. Thanks to the volunteers who helped out, and the many people who stopped by to visit and sign petitions!
