Hey Paov,

When I was six months old, doctors told my parents that I had polio, which should have sealed my fate in India, my birth country. Instead, I was adopted by a family in Canada and received critical medical care and surgeries allowing me to eventually walk with the help of crutches and braces.

Today, I live a life engaged in my community all because I had access to corrective surgeries and rehabilitation. But many other children stricken with polio do not.

On World Polio Day, we as Global Citizens must do all we can to ensure no child is left behind and end polio once and for all.

Last November, 2015 at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta, world leaders pledged to renew their political and financial support to eradicate polio.

Ramesh Ferris (at podium) speaking at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2015 about polio eradication.

Now, we must hold government leaders accountable and ensure they fulfill their promises.

Send a tweet to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull urging them to honor the commitments made in Malta last year and increase funding to help end polio once and for all.

Together, as Global Citizens we can ensure that every child everywhere can have access to life-saving vaccines and live healthy and happy lives.

Yours in health,

Ramesh Ferris
