Hey Paov,
Every year, 13.5 million girls are forced into marriage. Torn from their homes and taken out of school, they are exposed to reproductive health risks and early pregnancy, violence and exploitation.
These girls are being robbed of their childhood and their right to live a life of their own choosing, while they could grow up making significant contributions... to the social and economic development of their communities.
On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, stand with advocate and rapper Sonita Alizadeh and tell world leaders to #LeveltheLaw by outlawing child marriage.
Sonita Alizadeh, rapper, activist against child marriage “Rap music let’s you tell your story to other people. Rap music is a platform to share the words that are in my heart.” - Sonita
To bring attention to this global problem, Sonita is also challenging Global Citizens like YOU to a rap challenge.
Grab your friends and classmates, or go solo, and write a stanza or two of your own rap speaking out against child marriage. Make a video and share your rap by tagging #sonitasrapchallenge and posting on Twitter by December 4th.
Sonita and a team of judges will announce the 10 best raps on December 10th, International Human Rights Day. The winning raps will be broadcast to the world, in a collective song to world leaders.
Together, let’s make sure they hear our message loud and clear: The time to end child marriage is NOW.
Thanks for doing what you do,
